In addition to the colorful show Mother Nature promises each year around this time, the long Columbus Day Weekend is also the time when the much anticipated Annual Hawley Fall Foliage Antique Show & Sale takes place.
In celebration of the show’s 25th year, the 2011 venue will be the historic Hawley Silkmill, 8 Silkmill Drive, Hawley.
Traditionally this show kicks off with a Patron’s Preview and Harvest Tea on Friday evening, and the hallmark 25th anniversary will be no exception.
On October 7th supporters will not only enjoy a gala “premier night” preview of the show from 6 to 8 p.m., they will also enjoy light seasonal harvest fare, mulled cider, and more.
The show and sale then continues on Saturday, October 8th from 10 am to 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday, October 9th from 11:00 am to 5:00 p.m.
A small show by today’s super-sized standards, the dealers at the Hawley Fall Foliage Show hail from throughout the northeastern and mid-Atlantic states and will offer an extensive and varied array of merchandise – much of it set aside especially for this event.
In contrast the massive structure hosting this year’s show is the largest laid bluestone building in the world, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. “Part of this show’s success over the years,” according to Elaine Herzog and Rosemarie Fritz, two of the show’s mainstays and organizers, “is the fact that we take great care each year to insure a good balance in the categories of interest offered.
We are excited and pleased to be able to host the show at this location which boasts ceilings in excess of 12’, totally refurbished original mill floors, and unsurpassed natural light.
We encourage everyone to support the event at this a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, and particularly since the proceeds will benefit three non-profit organizations dedicated to educational and cultural opportunities in our community – the Ritz Theatre, the Hawley Public Library, and the Wayne County Arts Alliance.”
“In addition, timeless items of function such as period furniture, lighting, and selected accessories, as well as other wares such as those brought along by our dealers are always in great demand,” adds Jack Dakey, a Hawley show veteran and well-known dealer in American Brilliant Period Cut Glass.
Some of the returning exhibitors for 2011 include Ann Street Antiques (estate and fine jewelry), Dakey & Fritz, (Brilliant American Cut Glass), Bergesens Antiques (quality smalls), Miss Elly’s Antiques (primitives, art pottery), and Tillies Antiques & Trinkets (estate quality porcelains, unusual items).
Also participating are The Ultimate & Interesting, The Glass Hat, Indian Hill Antiques, From The Attic, Bittersweet Antiques, TimeSpace Antiques, and Peddlers Antiques LLC.
Additional dealer specialties include exquisite art glass, fine porcelains, toys and dolls, various glass specialties including depression era and elegant depression, fine art and paintings, and etc cetera - all offered for sale.
Friday evening’s patron’s preview (6 to 8 p.m.) includes catered seasonal fare (donation $10 ) Admission to the show Saturday (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) or Sunday (10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) is just $4 – again, all to benefit the Ritz Theatre, the Hawley Public Library, and the Wayne County Arts Alliance.
The Hawley Silkmill is located just minutes from I-84 Exit 26 or Exit 30, approximately 1 mile west of Lake Wallenpaupack in the Poconos.
The silkmill is one of the many jewels to be found in the historic town of Hawley, PA, which itself is an antiquing destination with numerous shops and co-ops literally a block or two away from the show.
