County officials unveiled a glossy, new tourism website at the commissioner’s Thursday meeting.
The website - www.visitwaynecounty.com - is a revamped version of a previous county tourism site. It mixes sharp local photography with information on lodging, dining, attractions, and shopping, among other interests.
“It’s been a pleasure to work on this,” said Chuck Lockwood, president of LockData Technologies, of Hawley. “(It) will hopefully help the county attract tourism business.”
The website was developed in cooperation with the Southern Wayne Regional Chamber of Commerce, Hawley-Lake Wallenpaupack Chamber of Commerce, and Wayne County Chamber of Commerce.
It cost $15,000, paid by lodging taxes collected in the county, said chief clerk Vicky J. Lamberton.
Businesses can post their own information and photos - for free. The chambers of commerce also began reaching out to businesses in late June in order to populate it with more listings.
This is a continuing effort.
The website also contains an upcoming events list and a feature that allows the public to send an electronic postcard - incorporating a Wayne County photograph - to family and friends.
In other action at the commissioner’s meeting, the county emergency management agency received a $100,000 grant from the federal Department of Homeland Security, said EMA Director Steve Price. The grant will be applied to furnishing the new emergency operations center in Berlin Township.
Price also noted that a newly minted “hazard mitigation plan” is available on the county government website. The plan details pre-and-post emergency disaster plans for all 28 municipalities.
