 Four Dairy Maids will serve Wayne County in 2009-2010, representing the dairy industry. They were presented at the Wayne County Dairy Princess Pageant held on June 14 at Ladore Lodge in Waymart.
They are Morgan Franc, Myranda Strada, Alyssa Weist and Katie Gilpin.
There were no candidates for Dairy Princess this year. The age range for Dairy Maid is 13-15, and for Dairy Princess, 16-21.
The 2008 Wayne County Dairy Princess, Miss Amber Curtis, started the evening with a milk toast before a delicious buffet dinner was served. The Master of Ceremonies, Peter Wilken introduced the 2008 Wayne County Dairy Princess Court, Miss Amber Curtis, Miss Becky Theobald, Miss Amy Curtis and Miss Katie Gilpin. Peter thanked the girls for their commitment to the dairy industry and all their hard work in promoting dairy products.
Next, Joan Schweighofer introduced the 2009 Wayne County Dairy Maids:
Miss Morgan Franc, Morgan is the daughter of Scott and Laura Franc. She is a student at the Western Wayne High School. Morgan is the secretary of the Achievers 4-H club. Morgan helps with the animals at the Swingle’s farm. She also participates in FBLA and is on the cheer leading squad at Western Wayne. Morgan thinks that the youth should be involved in the dairy industry and that is why she is a Junior Dairy Representative.
Miss Myranda Strada, Myranda attends the Western Wayne Middle School and she is the daughter of Edward Jr. and Tia Strada. Myranda is the treasurer of the Achievers 4-H club and her other activities include track manager and football manager. Myranda helps on her grandfathers farm. Myranda is a Junior Dairy Representative because she believes it will benefit her in the future.
Miss Alyssa Weist, Alyssa is the daughter of Brian Weist of Honesdale and Melissa Weist of White Mills. Alyssa attends the Honesdale High School. She is a member of the Pleasant Mount Go-Getters 4-H Club and the Wayne County Dairy Judging Team. Alyssa owns 20 dairy cows. Alyssa enjoys playing softball on a Senior Missy Softball Team and on the JV softball Team at Honesdale High School. Alyssa is a Junior Dairy Representative because she is reliable and capable of representing the dairy industry. She will also present herself as a good role model for young children.
Miss Katie Gilpin, Katie is from Greentown and she is the daughter of Buck and Rhonda Gilpin. She attends the Wallenpaupack South Elem. School and participates in the drama club for elem. kids. Katie is a member of the Newfoundland Kids 4-H Club and loves to take care other animals. She also plays softball on the Babe Ruth League. Katie is a Junior Dairy Representative because she enjoys promoting dairy products and says it's lots of fun.
The 2008 Wayne County Dairy Princess, Miss Amber Curtis, presented her farewell speech. Amber was very grateful for the experience of being the Wayne County Dairy Princess. She thanked many people for their help and support throughout her reign as the 2008 Wayne County Dairy Princess.
The evening concluded with an auction of various donated items with Peter Wilken and Wayne Weaver  striking each item off to the highest bidder. The proceeds will help the new 2009 Wayne County Dairy Princess Court with many dairy promotions through out Wayne County.
