The Greater Honesdale Partnership invites all businesses, non-profit and community groups from the greater Honesdale area and beyond to help stomp-out the traditional mid-winter hum-drums by joining our Fourth Annual “Mardi Gras on Main,” on Saturday, Feb. 18.
During Mardi Gras season in New Orleans, businesses send “Krewes” out on the street. These groups of people traditionally dress in wild costumes, build a float to promote their business, and hold a BIG parade.
And just like New Orleans, we are inviting local “Krewes” to parade on the sidewalks between the hours of 1 and 4 p.m.
Each “Krewe,” once registered, will be scheduled to depart at a specific time that day in order to bring continuous activity to Honesdale’s Main Street. All “Krewes” will parade from their place of business or a pre-arranged location all the way down one side of Main Street and up the other and are limited only by their imagination and good taste.
This is a clever and very fun way to market your business or organization (perhaps especially helpful to those businesses located off Main Street) by creating a small float using things like baby carriages, hospital beds, wagons, garden or shopping carts, wheelbarrows and anything else that will fit down our sidewalks.
Participating businesses are also urged to hand out colorful Mardi Gras beads to shoppers they pass on the sidewalks.
The event is open to local area businesses, nonprofits, civic organizations, and anyone who would like to join in the fun.
Pre-registration is required. For more information or to pre-register, please call Jeff Hiller, Mardi Gras on Main chairperson, at the Trackside Grill, 253-2462 or Gail at the GHP office, 253-5492 by Feb. 13.
Mardi Gras on Main is just the first in a year full of great events in Honesdale!
The 2012 season of events brings with it the “Festival of the Arts,” which falls on May 19 and 20. We welcome and encourage antique dealer, tre crafters, area artists and artisans, street musicians and unique, old-fashioned food vendors to come and join us for two fun days of art, antiques, crafts and shopping. The event will feature the 7th annual “Antiques on Wheels” parade, the 5th annual Airing of the Quilts, delicious treats offered by our local nonprofit and civic organizations, student art displays, music and more!
The 7th annual Honesdale Roots and Rhythm Music and Arts Festival will take place on June 16. This will have a juried art and artisan show and food vendors.
