The Wayne Independent is seeking your questions for Congressman Chris Carney and challenger Chris Hackett.

Both candidates have been invited to a debate 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at Honesdale High School's auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Questions can be submitted to Wayne Independent Publisher Steve Fountain by fax at (570) 251-9910; by e-mail at sfountain@wayneindependent.com; or dropped off at the Wayne Independent office, 220 8th St., Honesdale. Questions may also be submitted at the event.

Hackett, the Republican challenger, will be attending. Carney's campaign has not responded directly to the offer, although a member of the Carney campaign is cited as saying he won't attend in a story appearing in the Times-Leader . Here is the link to that story:

According to Fountain, if both candidates attend, a debate will be held. If only Hackett attends, Fountain will conduct a 45-minute question-and-answer session with Hackett and, after a break, a 45-minute session featuring questions submitted in advance from readers as well as from members of the audience.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Fountain is asking those favoring a second date (one is scheduled for later this month on WVIA) to contact the Carney office to encourage his participation. To contact the Carney campaign, go to www.carneyforcongress.com/contact, called at (570) 585-1308, faxed at (570) 585-1309 or mailed to Carney for Congress, P.O. Box A, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
