The Wayne County Employment and Training Center held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of its new building Friday.
The new facility, located at 308 10th St., now houses the new and improved employment training center, PA CareerLink Representatives and the Veteran’s Affairs office.
“This is what Wayne County needed,” said Joe Seeblin, executive director of the Pocono Counties Workforce Investment Board.
“It’s wonderful to have a place where people can just walk in,” said Marie McDonnell, director of Job Training for Wayne County.
“Nobody from any segment of the economy is exempt,” said John Keyes, PA CareerLink Representative.
The new facility has six new computers on the main floor, which can be used by anyone in Wayne County for things like searching for a job or working on a resume.
“The donation of the computers is a big help,” said Mark Kacer, a Vietnam Veteran, who uses the computers at the facility.
There is an advantage of having the employment training office and the Veteran’s Affairs office in the same building, said V.A. representative Tom McDonnell. “The two offices can work seamlessly,” he said.
“Before, I had to go to two different places,” Mr. Kacer said, regarding the combination of the Veteran’s Affairs office and the employment training center.
“I wouldn’t have a job if it weren’t for these folks,” said Mark Burrier, who works at the Veteran’s Center in Scranton.
