Does God Consider America Special?
By REV. JACKIE MOHRMANN
Rev. Jackie Mohrmann, of Honesdale, is pastor of New Covenant Fellowship Church in Hawley.
When Alexis de Tocqueville, a French political thinker and historian, visited America in 1835, he made the following statement: “Not until I went to the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power: America is great because America is good, and if America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”
Our forefathers based our government upon God and His principles, knowing that to do so would bring God’s favor. However, a nation can only receive the blessings of God as long as it recognizes Him as Ruler and Lord of all. Our nation progressed, was prosperous, and became great by initially following the examples of our forefathers. Unfortunately, it has now strayed far from the truths of God.
We are doing much which is in direct contradiction to the Word of God, so how can He look the other way? How can He continue to bless a nation that is trying to remove Him from everything? Many consider His Word obsolete for today, but my Bible tells me that He is the same yesterday, today and forever. No longer are the pulpits aflame with the true Word of God but instead, people’s ears are being tickled with a feel good, watered-down gospel. Many have a false sense of security in their position as a once prosperous nation, or simply because they attend church, that all will remain well. God’s Word says differently, and our nation best wake up and realize that.
To remove God is to remove His blessing. The only way this nation will see God’s favor restored, is to turn from the path of moral and spiritual decline it is pursuing and once again seek Him. I believe at one time America was special to God, but no longer. It is heading down a path of destruction, and our only hope is to turn back to God and live for Him.
Does God Consider America Special?

Rev. Kawalek is ordained as a minister from The New Seminary; he serves as spiritual director of The Mission of The Creative Spirit.
I believe that God is Love and His/Her Love is unconditional, which dispels the egotistical human conception of “favoritism”. In order for God to love one country, one race, one religion, even one planet more than another implies a separation in The Divine, which is impossible - as much as we can “know” God from our challenged perspective. Most of Humankind apparently finds this hard to accept, because it makes “being right” the thing to die for; and alas, our Mother Earth suffers for our childishness!
Thank God for the Enlightened Ones who guide us back into Reality, beyond the laws of gravity, and man-made religions. In Truth, we are One; ask any mystic who has transcended the boundaries of limiting beliefs. S/he will tell you, “Love is all there is.”
The question, “Is America special in God's eyes?” lies parallel to the same unconscious but popularly held belief that someone (other than “the original people”) discovered America. It is no different than on what this country (in part) based its rebellion, “the Divine Right” of kings; and for that matter, it's biblical counterpart which still celebrates the misleading thought of a “chosen people”.
How long will it take us to learn to live peacefully without the need to crave “power over another” and release using it as a weapon of fear? How long will it take the spiritual beings on Earth ( we are them ) to be accountable to The Creator of All for our part in assisting the manifestation of “Heaven on Earth”?
It is the lesson of our lifetime, in fact for all of history. It is the reason why we are here, and the work that we have come here to do.
The more that Wo/mankind is able to be more God-like by loving unconditionally, the less we would have to think on a national ( or a religious ) level that no matter what, we'll be damn right.
