No one told the GPS satellite about Honesdale’s new one-way traffic pattern.
Motorists using the GPS directional technology are being led to go the wrong way, said Robert Jennings, Honesdale councilman who chairs the Safety Committee. At Monday night’s council session he warned that this could be a “major problem” come summer with an increase of visitors from urban areas and campers.
He said he has been getting some complaints. One driver at the red light at 4th and Church Street (at the bridge), her GPS unit advised her to go one block and turn RIGHT- to go west on Route 6. That of course is wrong, suggesting a driver to turn right onto Main Street and head west on 6 (facing oncoming one-way traffic).
Jennings contacted PennDOT and State Representative Michael Peifer. Attempts to find someone in charge of GPS has not been successful. Peifer is working with Jennings to resolve the problem.
