Radio contests are constantly giving away tickets and meet and greets with your favorite artists. Many call in on a whim and never expect to win.

One lucky Honesdale High School Alum, Allyson Irwin, found out sometimes, people actually do win call-in contests.

Froggy 101 ran a contest giving away the chance to meet country music star Dierks Bentley in NYC for a listening party. The party, held on Feb. 7, has been going on since Jan. 30 and will be held at the Capital Building in New York City. To participate in the contest, listeners had to wait for a Bentley song to play on the radio and call in with the hope of being caller number twelve.

Also included in the prize is transportation round trip in a limousine for the winner and one guest. The winner will get to hear Bentley’s new album, “Home,” the day it goes on sale with the artist himself. A rooftop lunch in the city is another perk of the prize.

An Occupational Therapy major at Misercordia University, Irwin had “been trying for a week” to win the grand prize of attending a listening party with Dierks Bentley.

On Wednesday, Irwin got her lucky break. She heard a Bentley song on Froggy 101 on her way to an 8 a.m. class and dialed in as she walked to class.

Irwin was shocked when she heard the words she was waiting for- “Congratulations! You’re caller number twelve!”

Her response to her winning was “Are you serious?” As the radio personality assured her, she realized they were very serious.

She was “in shock” and couldn’t believe she had actually won.
“I love him. He’s one of my favorite artists!” she said excitedly about getting to meet Bentley.

It seems that persistence has paid off for her. “I call all the time for other contests,” but had never won.
