Two puppies were stolen in a Hamlin pet store break-in along with $480-$490 in cash.
“We just want the puppies returned safe,” said Kevin Siclari, owner of Pampering Your Pets, located in the Hamlin Shopping Plaza on Route 590, next to the Yo Po II and Subway restaurants.
The two female, brindle-colored boxers are eight weeks-old and valued at $750 each. A reward is being offered for their return.
The burglary occurred sometime between 8 p.m. Monday evening and 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Store employee, Katie Sledzinski of Ledgedale, says she arrived to work Tuesday morning and was cleaning up after the puppies and bringing dirty dishes back to the sink when she saw the back door was open. The top cage at the back of the store stood open with both puppies gone.
Sledzinski said when she went back up front, she noticed the cash register was open and called 9-1-1. “I didn’t know what to do ...I was upset. I was crying — freaking out, just seeing the puppies gone. I was really upset,” she said, her eyes tearing up.
“We definitely think the sole purpose of the robbery was the puppies. We have other popular dogs, like the Pugs and they didn’t touch them,” she said.
“They were beautiful puppies,” Siclari said. He says brindle Boxers (fawn colored with black stripes) are hard to find and that Boxers and Rottweilers are the top selling dogs. He says 11 puppies were left behind, including Lhasa Apsos, a Cocker Spaniel, Pugs, Rottweiler/Labradore Mixes, and Bichons.
Sledzinski says they’ve made up fliers to post at stores throughout the area in hopes that someone will call.
“Maybe we’ll get lucky,” Siclari said, that someone has seen the dogs. “They’re around here,” the pet retailer said, figuring the puppies haven’t been taken far.
Siclari said the store only had the puppies five days before they were taken.
“As long as they come back safe, I don’t care about the money at all,” Siclari said.
