There’s a phone scammer out there playing dirty tricks again.
This time someone is shamelessly contacting businesses in the region asking them to donate money to a fictitious memorial fund setup for a state trooper who was recently killed in a gunfight.
The individual has apparently called businesses in Wayne, Susquehanna, Lackawanna, and Luzerne counties for a supposed “Trooper Joshua Miller Memorial Fund.”
Trooper Miller, 34, was tragically shot and killed last June by a suspect he was chasing for 40-miles through Northampton and Monroe counties.
The person making the illegal calls is also saying that he is a Pennsylvania State Trooper.
State Police Honesdale barracks have begun an investigation into this illegal telephone solicitation, which was reported to the newspaper on Wednesday.
Anyone who may have had contact with this person should call the Honesdale barracks at (570) 253-7126.
