Concerned over the need for more township income, Manchester Supervisors have proposed to raise real estate taxes for 2010. This would be their first millage increase since 1987, said Chairman Steve Macey.
The new rate, .32 mill, is included with the proposed budget which Supervisors agreed Monday night to advertise for public review. The Supervisors intend to vote to adopt the budget and tax rate at the December 21st meeting.
They also talked about the possibility of creating an ordinance in the future, to regulate sheds, garages and other out-buildings not covered under the present statewide building code. Out-buildings under 1,000 square feet that complement but are unattached from the house do not require permits under the code. Regulating them would raise some needed revenue for the Township.
Among items of great interest that were discussed was a notification from the Liquid Fuels (Act 655 which informed the Supervisors of the reduction of monies for fuel in the 2010 budget. The amount received by the township in 2009 was $163,000: The amount to be received on April 1, 2010 is $153,000. This deficit is of great concern considering the increase of other items that must be considered.
Currently the township is not even at a break-even point, Macey said.
