Bank robbed in Callicoon, package not a bomb

The Callicoon branch of Bank of America was robbed Friday morning by a man wearing a Bill Clinton face mask. He claimed he had a bomb, demanded money and escaped with an unknown amount of cash.

The Callicoon branch of Bank of America was robbed Friday morning in neighboring, Sullivan County, New York.


 According to The Times Herald-Record, a man wearing a Bill Clinton face mask walked in around 8:30 a.m., just as the staff was opening the bank.


Saying he had explosives, the masked robber demanded money, then fled through a rear entrance, with an undisclosed amount of cash.


The Times Herald-Record says a package found in the bank during the robbery is not a bomb. Though declared safe by the bomb disposal unit, no word yet on what that package contained.
According to the newspaper, two men were taken into custody for questioning. State Police later set up road blocks on Route 17B, near the White Lake Firehouse and Hurd Road intersection, the newspaper said.


State Police at Liberty planned to issue a press release later in the afternoon.
