The new Wayne County jail in Texas Township got a nod of approval from the state.
Ed Pfister, of the state Department of Corrections, presented a 100-percent compliance certificate, for 2008, to the jail’s staff and read a congratulatory letter from state corrections secretary Jeffrey Beard at the county commissioner’s Thursday meeting.
State inspectors toured the jail in September, checking its sanitation, security, admission capacity, and the cells along with prisoner treatment, hygiene, and recreation opportunities.
Inmates and jail staff were also randomly selected for interviews, said Pfister.
“We look at everything when we come to inspect,” he said.
Its the 23rd jail in the state to be identified as achieving a perfect score this year.
“We our very proud of our facility, very proud of the people that work there,” said county commissioner Brian Smith. “It truly was a collaborative effort of everyone that works there.”
The Wayne County Correctional Facility fully opened in August.
It replaced the old jail in Honesdale.
