Republican gubernatorial candidate and state Attorney General Tom Corbett spoke to a group of supporters Friday afternoon, emphasizing the importance of getting Republicans out to vote in the upcoming mid-term election.
“We have a difficult time ahead of us,” Corbett told his supporters, which included state Sen. Lisa Baker, 10th congressional district candidate Tom Marino, and many from the Wayne County’s GOP establishment.
Corbett, who is hoping to replace Gov. Edward G. Rendell, told supporters that the upcoming November general election will “change the course of Pennsylvania.”
“This election is about our grandchildren growing up in a Pennsylvania we grew up in,” he said.
“We all need your support,” Marino said, “we all can make history.”
“We’ll raise all the money that we need. Maybe not as much as him (Carney), but we’ll have the votes,” Marino said.
“For the past four years, I’ve served a governor that I don’t respect,” said Baker.
“People are legitimately concerned with the size of the budget and the amount of taxes that they pay,” he said in a brief interview before the event.
“I’ve made the tough decisions in Pennsylvania...the next four years are going to be tough in Pennsylvania,” he said.
“We’re going to govern under three principles, and they are fiscal discipline, limited government and free enterprise,” Corbett continued. “We’re going to cut the size of government, we’re going to cut our spending, we’ll let people keep their money so they can create the jobs in Pennsylvania.”
