It was a case of a stolen lamp, a driver’s license and a forged check in Hawley that landed two people in jail.
Amber Lynne Ryan, 21, of Greentown, Pike County, allegedly sold a stolen antique lamp, which was taken from her mother’s, at an antique exchange in Hawley to a resident of that town, according to the state police report.
The Hawley resident, who will remain unnamed in this report, wrote a $50 check for the lamp to Ryan.
This exchange occurred in late November.
Ryan was accompanied by Megan Madeline Will, 23, of Scranton, throughout the crime, the state police report stated.
Ryan allegedly altered the check to $80, then drove to another Hawley resident’s home, who will remain unnamed.
Ryan then allegedly stole this resident’s license because she didn’t have an ID and also endorsed the check in that person’s name. She cashed it at local The Dime Bank, according to the state police report.
On Dec. 2, the victim found out that the altered check, endorsed in her name, was cashed at the bank, the state police report stated.
State police issued felony warrants for Ryan and Will on Dec. 16.
Both were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Jane Farrell, and remanded to the Wayne County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
