David Raven, president and chief executive officer of Pennstar Bank, announced that, effective at the close of business today, Pennstar Bank is acquiring the deposit accounts of Wayne Bank’s branch in Hamlin, which is closing today (March 31).
In December 2008, Pennstar Bank entered into an agreement with Wayne Bank to acquire the deposits of Wayne Bank’s Hamlin branch located in Weis Markets on Route 590. These deposits include savings and checking accounts, debit cards, certificates of deposit and individual retirement accounts. These deposits are being transferred today to Pennstar Bank’s nearby Hamlin Corners Office at the intersection of Route 191 and Route 590.
Former customers of Wayne Bank will be able to transact business at Pennstar Bank on April 1. In Wayne County, Pennstar Bank also has offices in Greene Dreher and Lake Ariel.
“This opportunity supports our ongoing commitment to Wayne County,” Raven said. “It is also a logical alternative for Wayne Bank customers, given the closeness of our Hamlin Corners Office and our other offices in the area.”
Pennstar Bank provides personal banking, asset management and business services. The independent community bank, headquartered in Scranton, Pa., has 38 offices in six northeastern Pennsylvania counties. Norwich, N.Y.-based NBT Bancorp Inc., the parent company of Pennstar Bank, has assets of $5.3 billion as of December 31, 2008.
