A Department of Agriculture inspector discovered more than 100 rodent droppings, traces of animal excrement on dishes and glassware and a dead rodent in the basement storage area of a Gouldsboro tavern on Tuesday.
The Gouldsboro Tavern & Inn, located on 572 Main St., in Gouldsboro, is listed on the Department of Agriculture (DOA) website as “out of compliance” with 13 violations. Seven of the 13 violations deal with visible rodent activity and excrement found in a basement storage area.
“There were no signs of rodent activity noted in the food preparation bar or dining area of the establishment,” according to the inspector’s report.
The risk category is listed as “high,” but a spokesman said most eateries are listed as such if raw food is cooked there.
Other violations include an expired “public eating and drinking license,” which expired January 5, 2010.
In order to be cleared of the violations, the establishment must correct these violations and contact the DOA Bureau of Food Safety for a follow-up inspection.
The establishment is still open.
A letter was sent to the owner, Keith Coyne, warning him about the out of compliance violation.
Coyne and manager Aileen Exeter could not be reached for comment Friday.
