Northern Wayne County is beginning to see more signs that natural gas drilling is coming to town.
The state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), which regulates the industry, received a drill permit application on Monday for a proposed site in Buckingham Township.
This comes one month after the department received a drill permit application for a site in Preston Township, according to DEP records.
Both applications, registered to Pennswood Oil & Gas LLC, are currently under review.
Pennswood Oil & Gas LLC is an unknown player at this time, with only these two permits tagged to its name throughout the state, DEP records show.
An attempt to contact the company's president was unsuccessful.
The permit applications may also require approval from the Delaware River Basin Commission, which also has regulatory jurisdiction over the gas extraction industry in Wayne County and other areas in the river's watershed.
Wayne County has so far seen scant natural gas drilling or permitting, since the industry began ramping up operations in the state.
One natural gas well in Clinton Township was partially drilled, until the Delaware River Basin Commission halted work there because the well operator did not obtain a permit from the commission.
Chesapeake Appalachia, of West Virginia, has begun drilling operations in Oregon Township, Fox Hill Road, a well that is reportedly not targeting the Marcellus Shale.
The Oregon Township site is currently the only known active natural gas extraction operation in the county.
DEP maintains a permit database on-line at www.ahs2.dep.state.pa.us/eFactsWeb/default.aspx
