Fire at former church ruled arson

Pa. State Police report that an arsonist set the blaze at the former Pioneer Baptist Church building, in the early morning hours Wednesday.
At 1:45 a.m., fire companies from Carbondale and the surrounding area responded to the fire, at 180 Gordon Avenue in Carbondale Township. The old wooden, two story building was unoccupied and had once housed the Pioneer Baptist Church.
The Fire Marshall Unit conducted an investigation in the morning and determined that the cause was arson. Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Police Fire Marshal Unit, Troop R headquarters at Dunmore, at (570)963-4292.
