Honesdale Police are investigating a theft that occurred on Friday, September 5th, at the China Castle Restaurant on Main Street in Honesdale. On that evening a woman ate dinner at the restaurant and upon leaving, forgot her purse. A short time later she realized that she had forgotten the purse and returned to the restaurant to retrieve it and it was gone. Police are currently following leads in this case.

Fugitive arrested
On Thursday, September 4, Honesdale Police received information that a wanted person was residing in Honesdale Borough. A criminal history check was done and verified that there were three active bench warrants out of the Montgomery County Sheriff's office for 40 year old Janine Marie Oldham who was living at 207 Holiday Drive, Honesdale.
Police responded and took Oldham into custody on the warrants. She was taken to the Wayne County Correctional facility and was transported to Montgomery County the next day by the Wayne County Sheriff's department.
Cited for cigarette swipe
Honesdale Borough Police report that on 9/6/08, 46 year old Renee Ellsworth of Honesdale was arrested after she was observed concealing cigarettes in her pocket after taking them from the cigarette display at Dave’s Super Duper.
When confronted by the store manager Ellsworth at first denied having the cigarettes, but then threw them on the counter after the manager told her he was calling the police, according to the police report. Ellsworth was issued a non-traffic citation for retail theft.
