Pa. State Police Fire Marshal Unit, Troop R, reports arresting a Wilkes-Barre man for setting fire to a building in Simpson, June 19th.

 On October 31, Honesdale Borough Police arrested Justin Miller, 18 from Tuscon AZ, for being a fugitive of justice. 

Greene-Dreher Fire Department, Newfoundland, was being called out to a "fully involved structure fire" at 10:55 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31st.

Pa. State Police, Honesdale, reported October 28th, that a man who wouldn’t put down a machete, is in Wayne County Prison awaiting his day in court.

Pleasant Mount Emergency Services were called out at 5:27 a.m. Saturday to a fully involved structure fire at Herrick Center. Fire Chief Francis Nebzydoski said that the older wood frame house, owned by Richard Beemer, was a total loss. The owner, who the Chief said lived there by himself, was not at home at the time.  Pa. State Police, Honesdale, are investigating the theft of a pickup truck taken from the sales lot Honesdale Lincoln Mercury dealership on Route 191, Cherry Ridge Township, during broad daylight Saturday.

Pa. State Police report that an arsonist set the blaze at the former Pioneer Baptist Church building, in the early morning hours Wednesday.

A 24-year-old Lake Ariel man is facing multiple burglary and theft-related charges involving a three-county area.

Traffic problems may occur on North Main Street, including Route 6 & Route 191 near the intersection due to a structure fire on East Street. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Honesdale Police are investigating a theft that occurred on Friday, September 5th, at the China Castle Restaurant on Main Street in Honesdale. On that evening a woman ate dinner at the restaurant and upon leaving, forgot her purse. A short time later she realized that she had forgotten the purse and returned to the restaurant to retrieve it and it was gone. Police are currently following leads in this case.

A massive fire Sunday evening left a cottage at Elk Lake, Clinton Township, in ruins. Honesdale Fire Chief Stan Pratt, who took this picture, said the residents were safe. Fire broke out before 8 p.m. and the house was fully involved on arrival of the fire companies. A report from Browndale Fire Department, which was in charge at the scene, is pending.

The Honesdale Borough Police are investigating a theft of a purse that occurred at the Salvation Army store on Willow Avenue sometime between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on August 26.
According to police, the victim had a black purse in her shopping cart, when an unknown subject took it. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Honesdale Borough Police at 253-1900.

HONESDALE — The Honesdale Fire Department has reported that the old city alarm system, which is operated by corner pull boxes throughout the community, is not functioning properly in all areas of Honesdale Borough north of the Main Street Bridge.

In this day of modern communications, such as telephones and cell phones, this system is seldom used to call for help in the case of fire or other emergency and serves only as a back-up to the other systems.  On rare occasions, however, someone does use it to report a fire.

It is important at this time that it not be used to call for help, but rather residents phone in all emergencies by calling "911".

The public will be notified once the problem has been located and the the system is back online.

 The Honesdale Borough Police filed charges of Theft by Unlawful Taking and Unsworn Falsification on Michele Treverton, 37 from Honesdale.

The following cases were addressed Thursday by the Honorable Robert J. Conway, Senior Judge, Specially Presiding, Wayne County:

•RYSZARD OKULA, age 59 of Brooklyn, NY pled guilty to one count of Simple Assault, and one count of Resisting Arrest or Other Law Enforcement, both graded as Misdemeanors of the 2  Degree.  The incident occurred on March 8, 2008, in Dreher Township when Okula punched a Pennsylvania State Trooper in the neck.  He is scheduled to be sentenced on October 2, 2008.
