David Raven, president and chief executive officer of Pennstar Bank, announced that, effective at the close of business today, Pennstar Bank is acquiring the deposit accounts of Wayne Bank’s branch in Hamlin, which is closing March 31.

The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce today issued a warning today regarding advertising sales for a map project.

According to the press release, Hometown Productions (aka Universal AdCom) is currently planning sales calls in Wayne County to sell advertising on a Wayne County relocation map.

The chamber warns that the map is not a chamber project, nor is it endorsed by the chamber.

An advertisement for a consignment sale appearing in this week's edition of the Independent Extra listed the incorrect date. The consignment sale is not being held Friday, March 13.

The correct date is Saturday, April 11.

The announcement was made in a letter sent to its subscribers and posted on its Website, by Princeton, New Jersey-based Publisher James Kilgore.

HONESDALE — At a picnic, talking to local artist Rob Sepanak, Bob Nell was turned on to the art world.  Coincidentally, as he was fixing up a little apartment on South Street in Waymart, Bob turned to his partner Jim Rickert, and said, “I want to turn it into an art gallery.” Thus South Street Gallery in Waymart was born.

Now, while the gallery has seen moderate success, Bob reports, “We just don’t see enough foot-traffic in there to give the artists the recognition they deserve.”  Almost a year after opening its doors in October of 2007, the gallery is closing them.  However, as Nell likes to say, “When one door closes another opens.”
