HONESDALE—The Wayne County Sheriff's Department issued a release noting its fingerprinting services through IdentoGo are up and running for those in need of employment-related identity services.

Services are available by appointment through online registration at https://www.identogo.com/locations/pennsylvania, or by walk-in only on Fridays from 8:30 to 11:20 a.m. and 12:20 to 4:10 p.m.

Both walk-ins and scheduled appointments must first register on the IdentoGo website.

Registrants will be prompted to enter a service code provided by whoever is requesting the background check.

This determines the extent of the background check as well as cost for the service.

Payment is permissible by credit card, cashier's check, money order or a business check. Cash will not be accepted.

After services were no longer supplied by UPS, IdentoGo sought to partner with the Sheriff's Office to keep services in the Honedale area, states the release.

It further notes, “The county already had the equipment and trained staff to handle fingerprinting for the county and for law enforcement, so it seemed like a good fit.”

Sheriff Mark Steelman said in the release, “We are hoping to offer more of their services, but this is what we are starting with right now.”

According to the release “IdentoGo provides a wide range of identity-related services, and specializes in the secure capture and transmission of electronic fingerprints for employment, certification, licensing and other verification purposes – in professional and convenient locations.”

Demand for services increased after the crackdown on child protection laws following the Jerry Sandusky Abuse Scandal.

Now in addition to the businesses and professionals already required to undergo a criminal background check for employment, many volunteers working directly with children must do so as well.

This includes coaches, scout masters, 4-H leaders, bus drivers and others, states the County's release.

The Sheriff's Office is located on the first floor of the County Courthouse, 925 Court Street, Honesdale.
