HONESDALE—Friday morning, January 19, the Greater Honesdale Partnership (GHP) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for new child and family recreation center VIP Kidz Club, located at 218 Willow Avenue in Honesdale.
The facility held its grand opening Monday, January 22. Open play hours running from then until February 1 are as follows: Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Weekend hours are posted every Friday on the group's Facebook page.
Offering a variety of family-oriented birthdays, events, play spaces and more, VIP Kidz Club has memberships available starting at $75, as well as $10 day-passes for open play explained club manager Katiera Hatton.
The indoor play space and enrichment center contains a large, padded playground complete with bouncy castles, kiddie coaster, slides and other attractions for young children.
The facility also has a photography booth set up, a theater and space for hosting birthday parties and other events, explained Hatton.
Additionally, youth classes will be coming to VIP Kidz Club in the near future, said Hatton.
As well as providing services for local families, VIP Kidz Club is in and of itself a family business with Hatton functioning as manager and her mother Kathy Hatton taking the role of company owner.
“We put all this together in six weeks,” explained Hatton. “My mom kept saying, 'I wanna start a company,...' and ... so she kind of backed me in this whole dream. And, same with my dad.”
Hatton explained she ran a Frolic! kids play space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn New York for five years.
When the company moved to the Children's Museum of Manhattan, Hatton relocated to Park Slope and ran a Kidville, as well as ran parties at the Kidville in Carol Garden.
“So, I kinda took a little of all the things that I learned while running the two and seeing how two different places ran things,” said Hatton.
While VIP Kidz Club is focusing on younger children and families at the moment, Hatton noted she hopes to expand to after-hours programs for adolescents as well.
Hatton's parents, Morgen and Kathy Hatton noted they are both pleased to see VIP Kidz Club get off the ground.
“I'm sure she's gonna be very successful because she's doing something that's bringing value to the community and it's gonna enhance people's lives,” said Morgen, whose company Visual Image Productions provides the VIP in the Kidz Club name.
Hatton also stated she was grateful for assistance from Rustic Farmworks who helped VIP Kidz Club launch and whose goods are available for purchase from the facility lobby.
Hatton also noted her photography company Circa Photo helped fund the endeavor, as well as runs the facility's picture booth.
“So it's a collaboration from a few different business to allow this for the little ones, because there's really nothing for our kids in this area anymore, especially for that delicate 0-6 range,” she explained.
