DAMACUS — The Damascus United Methodist Charge is pleased to announce the appointment of Jose Leonardo Rodriquez, Jr., as pastor to the Damascus Manor United Methodist Church and the Abrahamsville United Methodist Church.

 

Pastor JR, as he is known to the congregation, was born in Reading, PA to Jose Leonardo Rodriquez and Wanda Santos.

 

He was raised in Puerto Rico with his two siblings, Jonathan and Jomar.

While attending college in 2005, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

 

In 2008, he moved back to Pennsylvania and attended New Birth UMC in Lebanon where he joined the worship team and played the flute and saxophone.

 

He also took part in teaching youth Bible studies, preaching, community outreach, lead a home service called the Guardians. Along with his wife, Elsa and a team of leaders, he was in charge of the youth group.

 

Pastor JR became a candidate for ministry in 2013 under the wing of Pastor Rev. Elena Ortiz.

He considers the opportunity to become a Path 1 intern in 2015 “a huge blessing.”

 

This allowed him to grow spiritually, mentally and emotionally.

 

As a Path 1 intern he was also able to learn the tools needed to reach out and understand the needs of the community.

 

As Associate Pastor to the Fourth UMC in York, PA, he worked with Rev. Miguel Arenas from July 2016-December 2017.

On January 1, 2018, he began his term in the Damascus Charge where he shares his passion for the gospel and the salvation that Jesus Christ offers to all.

 

Set to music, Pastor JR does his daily prayers and devotionals. He says “...I find myself quiet and in connection just studying the Bible and understanding God’s calling upon my life.”

A welcome reception will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2018.

 

It is a covered dish luncheon that will begin at 1pm in the Fellowship Hall of the Damascus Manor United Methodist Church.
