WAYNE COUNTY — On Thursday, Nov. 2, Arthur and Gail Frey received the Ben Franklin Community Service Award, sponsored by the Wayne County Community Foundation.
This is the 23rd year for the presentation, and with it goes a grant of $1,000 to the Newfoundland Food Pantry. The pantry was the chosen recipient by Mr. and Mrs. Frey.
The award recognized their lifelong commitment to the communities of southern Wayne County.
In celebration of their accomplishments, a dinner was held at Silver Birches resort in Hawley.
Attending were their family and friends, as well as more than one hundred supporters.
Foundation First Vice-President, Dr. Jay Starnes, presented the award and in his remarks noted that many of their gifts of kindness and monetary support were done anonymously.
“Wherever they saw a need, they were the first to help,” he said in closing.
Also speaking were the Freys two daughters, Susan Strada and Patricia Frey.
State Senator Lisa Baker presented a Resolution of the State Senate to mark the occasion.
Executive Director of the WCCF, Paul J. Edwards, was in charge of the dinner and awards banquet.
