NEWFOUNDLAND — Fifty-one pigs, 11 lambs, 10 goats and three steers totaling 75 animals were produced for the Junior Livestock Sale held Sept. 2, 2017.
The Grand Champion Hog was sold by Hailey Wasman and purchased by Mrs. Colleen Hook. The Reserve Grand Champion Hog was sold by Ayden Conolly and purchased by Pioneer Construction.
Rachel Olver sold the Grand Champion Lamb to Narrowsburg Feed & Grain. The Reserve Grand Champion Lamb was sold by Matthew Stone to K&B Construction.
Peter Keating sold the Grand Champion Goat to Integrity Financial. Reserve Grand Champion Goat was sold by Rylee Warnock to Pioneer Construction.
The Grand Champion Steer was sold by Tim Brown to Grimm Construction. The Reserve Grand Champion Steer was sold by Peter Keating to J&W Meats.
Through the generosity of the buys, the GDS Scholarship Program was increased by a total of $1,371.70. The Honesdale National Bank made two donations. Other benefactors included the Wayne/Pike Farm Bureau, Dexter Construction, Pioneer Construction and Gross Family Dairy.
The GDS Fair awarded three scholarships this year to Makayla Stone, Kayla Jonas and Sierra Rutledge.
The Nebzydoski/White Scholarship also received a contribution of $1,018.60.
The total funds raised by the sale came to $43,872.55.
Swingle wrote in the release:
“We were happy with the results and proud of the products our young people produced for sale.
“We are grateful to the loyalty and generosity of all our buyers and auctioneers.
“We also wish to acknowledge the parents of all our participants for instilling in their children the desire and persistence to see their projects through to completion each year.”
The Livestock Committe and GDS Fair Association also extended “...sincere thanks to all for another sucessful year.”
