HONESDALE — A death investigation is underway after the body of an elderly woman was found at a residence on North Main Street in the Borough Jun. 23 around 9 a.m., according the Pennsylvania State Police.

According to Trooper Mark Keyes, the body was discovered laying in bed by the facility landlord who was entering to inspect the air conditioning unit.

Keyes said the body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, making a positive identification difficult to attain.

The identity is unknown at this time.

Keyes stated the police are conducting interviews to determine more information.

No cause of death has yet been determined. A full autopsy will be conducted Monday morning.
