When you enter the grounds at the Wayne County Public Library, 1406 Main Street in Honesdale, you will notice many beautiful spots with flowers and trees where you can sit, reflect, relax, and perhaps read a book.

This May, there will be a new spot to relax and enjoy the weather due to the kindness of a family and the memory of a wonderful human being.

The Jenkins family asked that some of the money donated in former WCPL Board Member and long time Wayne County Educator Tom Jenkins' name be used toward the purchase of a bench where patrons will sit, read, and enjoy just as Tom often did.

There is an inscription on the new bench which reads:

"A life that touches the hearts of others lives on forever."

In Loving Memory

Thomas A. Jenkins

"Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it."

-Marian Wright Edelman

As soon as the weather is nice enough, the bench will be placed outside in a restful spot toward the front entrance of the library. It is the hope of Tom's family and the WCPL that people will sit, enjoy, remember, and be inspired.  Several books were purchased in some of Tom's favorite genres including: education, sports, and history.

Each book  has a book plate and a dedication. Thank you to everyone who donated to the library in memory of Tom. Your gift will touch the lives of those in our community for years to come.

The family is holding books purchased with money donated to the WCPL in Tom's name. For more information on donating in memory of or in honor of a loved one please contact the library at 570-253-1220
