Leave fireworks to the pros
The Fourth of July is this Saturday with fireworks being displayed in many places this weekend. They are so pretty to look at, but very dangerous in the wrong hands. How do fireworks work? All that dazzle, flash, and sparkle is chemistry in motion. A firecracker is a two-staged event set off by gunpowder, chemicals, and a fuse. Light a firecracker and the gunpowder sends it flying. Then the fuse ignites the chemicals...and pow... strontium burns red; barium, green; copper, blue; and sodium, yellow. But remember, all that is dangerous.
Independence Day (July 4th) is an annual holiday in the United States commemorating the formal adoption by the Continental Congress of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Although the signing of the Declaration was not completed until August, the Fourth of July has been accepted as the official anniversary of U.S. independence.
So, leave the fireworks to the professionals and enjoy the day with your family & friends.

Handy Hints: China.
* Buying China...To check if china is flawed, hold the item in the palm of your hand and tap lightly with a pencil. Unflawed china will have a clear bell-like ring. Flawed china will have a dull ring or no resonance at all.
* Preventing Scratches...Place paper doilies or napkins between stacked fine china plates to eliminate scratching.
* To avoid cracking, china dishes and bowls should always be warmed before placing hot contents on them.
* Tea Stains.. .Tea stains can be removed safely from fine china by rubbing gently with a cloth sprinkled with baking soda or salt.
* If your fine china plates have developed thin, spider -cracks in them, place them in a pan of warm milk for 30 minutes.
The cracks should disappear.

This week’s joke:
A man arrived at work with both ears bandaged.
"What happened to your ears?" asked the foreman.
"Well," he explained, "yesterday I was ironing a shirt when the phone rang and I accidentally answered the iron."
"That explains one ear, but what about the other ear."
"For gosh sake, I had to call the doctor."
Keep smiling.

This week’s question:
Where was the world's biggest fireworks display?
Answer: It was not for the Fourth of July. The big bang was in Hokkaido, Japan in 1988 at the Lake Toya Festival. The flash and light started with a 1,543-pound shell that exploded, lighting the sky in a giant circle of fireworks that covered almost a mile.
