Robert Moulton, age 16 of Sterling, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in scouting. He is the son of Kelli and Jeff Jarrow of Sterling, and Robert and Myra Moulton of York Pa.
Robert is a student at Western Wayne High School and will be a senior next fall. For his leadership service project Robert and other members of Boy Scout troop 205 of Hamlin designed and made new trail markers for the Maurice Brown trail at the Lacawac Sanctuary in Salem Township. He also designed and made a new trail head sign and repaired an old well. A scoutmaster recommended the project to him.
Involved in Scouting since becoming a Webelo Cub Scout around seven years ago, Robert said Scouting is a great way to learn to be a leader. Outdoor skills and good character are also gained, he observed.
Robert is involved in many school activities including Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society and Junior Academy of Science. He is a member is the Western Wayne marching band and was a drum major this past year. He is also a member of concert and jazz band.
“I very much enjoy music,” Robert said. He also tried out and made it to district and regional band this year.
Robert, who is a member of Civil Air Patrol, is working on getting his private pilot’s license. Last summer he had the opportunity to attend a Navy aviation camp in Oklahoma, through the LeadAmerica youth program. It was there he set his sights on the sky. He considered aeronautical engineering, but has decided he would like to train to be a commercial airline pilot.
“It’s a good feeling,” he said of being airborne, commenting on the great view and being free like a bird.
The Civil Air Patrol is a search and rescue organization, and includes a cadet program offering leadership training. The local unit, #201, is based at Cherry Ridge Airport.
Both his Mom and Stepdad have been very supportive of his activities and ambitions, he said. Robert recommended that other youth stay involved and not miss any beneficial opportunities.
