REVISED LETTER TO THE EDITOR POLICY (effective August 6, 2009)
The Wayne Independent will publish all Letters to the Editor that adhere to the following guidelines:
1) Letters must include your first and last name, community and daytime phone number. Only your name and community will be published. Anonymous contributions, pseudonyms and first initials are not allowed. Contributors whose identities cannot be verified to our reasonable satisfaction may be required to submit further identification or their contributions will be withheld from publication.
2) Letters must be in good taste and free of potentially libelous content.
3) The body of the letter must be no longer than 400 words.
4) Include sources for facts and figures used in your letter, either in the text of your letter or as a note at the bottom for our reference.
5) Unless otherwise noted, all material must be original to the author.
6) Letters may address local topics as well as those of state, national or international interest. Letters received from outside The Wayne Independent coverage area will be used only at management’s discretion.
7) Submissions longer than 400 words, but no more than 600 words, will be considered for use as a guest column. Not all guest column submissions will run as they are selected on merit and reader interest.
8) Guest columns and letters to the editor may be published or distributed in print, electronic or other forms.
9) Letters concerning an election must be received no later than 10 days before the election, except for a reply.
10) All letters are subject to management approval. A day time phone number should be included in the event we have a question.
Letters may be sent, Attn: Managing Editor, c/o The Wayne Independent, 220-8th St., Honesdale, PA 18431; or e-mailed to pbecker@wayneindependent.com.
