In an effort to raise needed relief for Haitian earthquake victims, a local church is offering Haitian worship music CDs for a suggested $10 donation.
New Covenant Fellowship Church in Hawley has been partnering for over 25 years with a Haitian minister and the network of churches, schools and orphanages that he started. New Covenant Fellowship assisted Rev. Nicolas Louis Juste with the completion of his first church, in 1984. Since then, the ministry expanded to as many as 25 churches, 23 schools and three orphanages, at various locations across the island nation.
Rev. Juste died in March of 2009 and since then, his wife Mona Juste, a nurse, and son Ricot Juste have overseen the work. Over 5,000 poor children were being assisted every day with a hot meal and schooling. A medical clinic is under construction, and a mobile clinic makes the rounds of the various locations.
The Hawley church has made several trips to Haiti over the years and was planning another this March. Then the disaster struck.
Thursday evening, phone contact was made with Mona and Ricot in Haiti, who with the rest of the family are living in their vehicles outside their devastated home. They report that at least six of their churches have collapsed; one orphan is known to have been killed and many church members lost their lives.
In August 2009 Mona visited the Hawley church and presented her first music CD. The CDs were made as a fund raiser for their ministry. She and her family recorded the CD in Haiti, with mostly original songs, all in their unique Caribbean style. Eight of the 11 songs are in Creole, and two in English. The titles are, The Suffering Haiti, The Prayer, You Need to Change, Answer Me Lord, Jesus I Love You, Jesus Will Come Back, How Can I Believe in God, Be Ready for God, an instrumental, Come to Jesus My Friend, and Where Are You Now.
Every cent of the proceeds will be sent to assist the Haiti relief effort.
The CD may be ordered, while supplies last, by sending the donation of $10 plus $2 for postage, to New Covenant Fellowship, PO Box 29, Hawley, PA 18428. Checks should be made to “New Covenant Fellowship” with “Haiti” in the memo line; include your name and address and phone number.
You may also stop at The Wayne Independent office, 122-8th St., Honesdale, and ask for Peter Becker, the church Missions Director, who has CDs available. CDs are also available at the church, before or following service times. For information, call (570)253-6948.
