Perhaps the strongest verses in the Bible on TRUST are found in Proverbs – “TRUST in the Lord with ALL your heart – and lean not on your own understanding. In ALL your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
We have emphasized two words in these verses – TRUST and ALL – both very important in our searching for God’s Will in our lives.
To TRUST is to put full confidence in another – with no doubting. The relationship between husband and wife for a successful marriage. The relationship between employer and employee for a successful working arrangement. So also, the relationship between God and man. God must have ALL of our TRUST and devotion, and we must have ALL of our TRUST and dependence on God the Father.
The little word ALL is very important in TRUSTING another. There can be no room for doubt or questionable behavior, for a lasting relationship.
This is why we have signed contracts in business – yes, also in marriage – legal and binding agreements that each party will fulfill their part to the end.
There are many verses in the Psalms that encourage full TRUST in God –
“Let ALL those who put their TRUST in God rejoice – let them shout for Joy, because You (Lord) defend them – let them also that Love Your name be Joyful in You” (Psalm 5:11).
“Many sorrows will be to the wicked – but he who TRUSTS in the Lord, mercy will be his portion” (Psalm 32:10).
“TRUST in the Lord, and do good – so shall you dwell in the land . . . Delight yourself also in the Lord – and He shall give you the desires of your heart . . . Commit your way to the Lord – TRUST also in Him – and He shall bring it to pass” (Psalm 37:3-5).
“Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his TRUST, and respects not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies” (Psalm 40:4).
“In God I will praise His Word, in God I have put my TRUST – I will not fear what flesh can do to me . . . In God have I put my TRUST – I will not be afraid what man can do to me” (Psalm 56:4,11).
“It is good for me to draw near to God – I have put my TRUST in the Lord God, that I may declare ALL His works” (Psalm 73:28).
Have you noticed the theme that runs through all these verses? The result of TRUST – Joy, Mercy, your Desires, Blessings, freedom from Fear, opportunity to make Him known – what more could we ask of Him?
The lack of TRUST in the lives of Church people can only bring fear, doubt, and restlessness – no real Hope – no confidence in tomorrow.
Remember, the words of our opening verse from Proverbs 3 – “TRUST in the Lord with ALL your heart – and He will direct your paths.” His promise of direction depends on our full commitment to Him, and His Word.
This may sound strange and difficult at first, but as you consider the Great Love of God, the Great Power of God, the Great Knowledge of God – then the rest is very simple – turn your ALL over to God and see Him work in and through you.
He has promised to “Supply ALL your needs” (Philippians 4:19). And, “He will never leave you, nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).
Do it today – TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART!
