Once again, the place to be this July 4th will be in the quaint village of Pleasant Mount located in the beautifut mountains of Northern Wayne County.
The parade will be Friday. July 4 starting 10 a.m. at the North Road and will finish at Meredith Park in the town center. There will be a Float Contest, with a $100 cash prize for the most original float and a trophy plus $50 prize to the runner up. There will be a tractor contest, with trophies to be awarded to the best looking and oldest tractors, along with a $50 cash prize. There will be a kid's segment (ages 12 and under) for the most patriotic tractor and the winner wilt receive a trophy.
At 11 a.m., immediate ly following the parade, the Costello-MonahanBrown American Legion Post 964 will offer a tribute to our veterans, with special recognition to two local natives who were recipients of the Purple Heart for injuries received in the Iraq War.
Patriotic musical selections will be performed by the Pleasant Mount Community Chorus. There will be an open house at the Pleasant Mount Historical Society Museum located at the O'Hara House, just east of the village center on Route 371. Step back in time to meet Samuel Meredith (AKA Mr. Rick Reynolds) who will once again making a guest appearance at the Historical Society.
The Pleasant Mount United Church will also be holding their traditional chicken BBQ at the Pleasant Mount Emergency Services hall. In addition, the Pleasant Mount Public Library will be hosting a silent auction, book sale, and they wilt be drawing the raffle winner for their handmade heirloom quilt. Pleasant Quilters will be hosting a homemade bake sale. There will be a puppet show for children to kick off the Pleasant Mount Public Library's summer reading program. There will be traditional 4th of July games, plenty of food and tasty old-fashioned root beer floats.
