Haiti benefit concert set
HONESDALE – A folk and jazz music concert has been arranged to benefit the Haiti earthquake victims. The “Honesdale Helps Haiti” concert, at Grace Episcopal Church, 827 Church Street, is scheduled Sunday, January 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. (snow date, Jan. 31, 1-3 p.m.).
Three local musicians will perform: Janet Burgan, Stephen Faubel and Kazzrie Jaxen.
A $10 donation is asked. All proceeds will be sent to Episcopal Relief @ Development. For information, call the church office at 253-2760.

‘Open mic’ night benefits skate park
HONESDALE—Paulies, on Park Street in Honesdale, is holding an open mic night Saturday, January 16 to benefit the proposed skate park in Honesdale.
There’s no charge to attend the event, which runs from 9 p.m. to 12 midnight, but donations for the skate park will be gratefully accepted. This is the first of such events to be held the third Saturday of every month at Paulies.

Orchid Society invites public
HONESDALE – Anyone interested in orchids is invited to attend the second meeting of the Northeastern Wayne Orchid Society.
You will learn that orchids are not a fussy houseplant as you were once told. We will discuss plant care and maintenance and encourage you to bring in your problem plants for diagnosis. There will be plants offered for sale, plant raffles as well as door prizes.
They meet on the third Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Mary's Church in Honesdale. The next meeting is on January 21.

Chicken dinner supports troops
HONESDALE – Laurel’s Coffee Grinder, 526 Main St., Honesdale, is planning a special chicken dinner to benefit troops deployed overseas. The dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, January 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. Have chicken with potato, vegetable, salad, rolls and butter, beverage and dessert. Al of the proceeds will benefit the troops. March for Life bus trip
HONESDALE – A bus trip is planned from the Hoesdale area for the 34th annual March for Life. The trip, on Friday, January 22, is hosted by the Wayne-Pike Chapter of Pennsylvanians for Human Life.
Buses will leave at 5 p.m. near McDonald’s Restaurant at the Route 6 Plaza, Texas Township. The march is in Washington, D.C. The buses will return at approximately 11 p.m. The cost is $5 a person.
The check, made payable to Pennsylvanians for Human Life, Wayne-Pike Chapter, should be sent with name, address and phone number, to Judy Rimlinger, 613 Long Ridge Rd., Hawley, PA 18428. For information call 226-4407.

Hamlin bingo hours
HAMLIN – The time for bingo on Sunday at Hamlin Fire & Rescue has changed for the winter. Bingo is held Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 5 p.m.) and on Sundays at 2:30 p.m. (doors open at 1 p.m.). For more information, call 689-3420. New hours will be announced in April.

VFW hosting steak dinner
