Beginning July 30 continuing through the Aug. 1, select artist members of the Wayne County Arts Alliance will open their studios to the public.

The 2010 WCAA Open Studio Tour features 20 local artists and artisans that are currently preparing for visits. During the three days of the tour, from 11 p.m. to 6 p.m., viewers will have the opportunity to meet an amazing diversity of artists, and tour the space where all the magic happens.

There are a variety of mediums represented on the tour this year including folk art, photography, print work, pottery, rustic furniture, fabric art, painting, sculpture, and woodcarving.

Several artists will be offering on-site educational presentations in conjunction with this event, allowing participants to experience first-hand the inner-workings of an art studio.

The WCAA has its studio headquarters at the Hanson Gallery & Decorium located at 1037 Main St., Honesdale.

The Studio Tour Headquarters features works of art by each of the artists and gives participants a preview of what they will see along the tour. In addition, WCAA members will be available to help viewers plan their tour.

The Open Studio Tour began eight years ago as means of celebrating the arts in Wayne County.

It was organized by a handful of local artists that were looking to share their time and talents with the community.

This collaboration led to the birth of the organization we recognize today as the Wayne County Arts Alliance. With more and more artists and non-artists becoming involved in community arts projects, the WCAA has become a vital and creative grass-roots organization whose vision is to enrich our community.

Wayne County abounds with natural beauty and charm and each artist’s studio reflects that unique character influenced by historic downtowns, endless mountains, flowering meadows and meandering roads.

These influences are evident in their artwork. Share in the life of an artist for the afternoon; enjoy the artwork, and experience the charm of Wayne County; it will be an unforgettable event.

The WCAA Open Studio Tour is free to the public.

Brochures and maps can be found at the Open Studio Tour headquarters, The Hanson Gallery and Decorium and at locations throughout Wayne County. The brochure can be viewed and printed out by at the WCAA website: www.waynecountyartsalliance.org.

For more information, please contact the WCAA office at (570) 253-6850. WCAA hopes you will join in celebrating and supporting the arts in the heart of Wayne County.
