Winners of weight loss contest named

The weight is over.
For Michelle Merrigan and Thomas Maher, both of Honesdale, the wait was over Friday for receiving the fruits of their labor -- losing more than 40 pounds each -- in the third annual Weight No More contest.
Merrigan and Maher, both 35, finished on top of the standings for men and women in an 11-week contest, sponsored by The Wayne Independent and the Wayne County YMCA.

Carbondale YMCA plans opening

On Sunday, March 28, at 2 p.m., the Greater Carbondale YMCA will open the doors of its new facility.

Marian Community Hospital earns environmental award

Stericyle, a sharp-objects waste management service, has awarded Marian Community Hospital the Stericyle Environmental Excellence Award for reaching waste reduction goals and reducing carbon emissions into the environment through participation in the Sharps Management System.  Marian Community is the first Lackawanna County hospital to be recognized for this award.

Carbondale Crayons plan anniversary exhibit

The Greater Carbondale Chamber of Commerce Main Street Gallery will mark its first anniversary with its fifth exhibit in a year, a “juried” art event on March 26, featuring the works of several regional artists in formats ranging from painting and photography, to sculpture, wood and glass.

Presidential Trivia Contest

The Greater Honesdale Partnership (GHP), The Wayne Independent, 95 Three DNH, Sunny 105, and the First National Community Bank have announced the beginning of the 2nd annual Presidential Trivia Contest.

The contest began Friday, February 5. Players are invited to cut out the entry form found in Friday’s edition of The Wayne Independent, print one from the pdfs online, or visit 95ThreeDHH.com or Sunny105.net and print off an entry form.
