Maybe I’m premature or late with this column having written it a week prior to publication? I journeyed to Shanksville (last weekend) visiting some dead heroes. Needed this column “in the box” so I could pay attention out there, instead of worryin’ ‘bout gittin’ something ready fer you folks.
So have ya noticed the pale faces on the newscasters faces lately? I mean they’ve just been all aglow this past year or so. First they had a first lady (usin’ that term loosely) runnin’ for president.
Then they had a handsome, highly-educated, black fella (mostly, but not enough? according to other black folks) running for president. A gifted orator, on the order of Martin Luther King (keepin’ in mind with politics, talks cheap).
Didn’t matter that he had no more experience than that first lady? As I’ve said in a prior column, sleepin’ next to the president doesn’t impart actual (executive) experience. No more than bein’ a highly-motivated “community organizer” ridin’ into some poor part of town to “organize” conveys.
Surprisingly, the majority of folks can “organize” themselves quite satisfactorily, when motivated to do so? (see last weeks column wherein local folks proved that very well).
Back to those pale faced news folks. Like I say, for the past year or so (seems like ten?) those news folks been just a-glowin’! Every day they’ve been spoutin’ off about the “historic” presidential primary races. Blathering on ad infinitum (fer my readers that’s “‘til the cows come home”) as if they thought they were reportin’ actual news.
But like me, most of ya’ll weren’t really payin’ that much attention (mostly annoyed that they kept doin’ daily). They weren’t reporting, they were just filling the airwaves. The fact that they had a female and a then black candidate (both democrats!) was more than enough for them to git all giddy.
Meanwhile as I wrote some months back, I wasn’t gonna pay much attention ‘til the “field” got whittled down to less than a ball team. Appears to me like most of you (and the country) been doin’ the same?
But suddenly we’re gittin’ down to a horse race!
The republicans have fielded one of the most accomplished, experienced, principled (and decorated) men in their long history! Sure, like you I’ve noticed he’s gittin’ a bit jowly? But he’s healthy as a horse, and not much older than many of you out there. I wouldn’t want to get into an athletic arena and go up against him, he’s tough as nails!
Being somewhat of a free thinker (gee, isn’t that youthful?) or “maverick” as they’ve labeled him, he’s stepped out of the box again! He’s picked a woman to be his (our) vice-presidential candidate!
Gov. Sarah Palin. Young(er), vibrant, outspoken (borderin’ on brash). Good lookin’, intelligent and tough. Someone with more actual “executive experience" than all three of the other people nominated for our two top “executive offices” combined!
Note: Executive, One who actually makes decisions. Like your boss or company CEO (chief "executive" officer). Like a mayor or governor (or president) has to do daily!
Not “cajole” like a community organizer might be called upon to do. Not talk all day and practice compromisin’ like a senator. But actually make decisions on the job! (and face the consequences).
So ya see why those those pale faces I’ve mentioned have come along. If ya watch the TV screen real close ya may even notice (I have) some glazin’ over of the eyes on some newscasters? Even the occasional wild-eyed sheen coatin’ their waterin’ the eyes, kinda like a deer in the headlights?
That's worry! It’s concern! They can’t believe it, but it’s happening. Suddenly, it’s not all about their chosen (anointed) candidate.
Polls (I hate polls) are (virtually) all showing McCain and Palin aren’t just pacin’ this race, they’re takin’ the lead!!
Real people are starting to be heard from at last. You and I are paying attention! Now that it’s gittin’ down towards actual decision time.
Durn!! What’s a smooth-talkin’, self-respectin’ (I don’t), liberal lovin’, newscaster (closet democrat), gonna do about the situation now!?! I’ll tell ya...,
They’re gonna “spin” things like a little kids toy top. They’re gonna keep showin’ ya the democrats at the top of the news hour, and above the fold in the newspapers. They’re gonna minimize every good thing McCain or Palin does or says (or ever did or said).
I Don’t Know About You..., Just like the past year I’m gonna ignore ‘em, until it counts. Just weeks from now, when I stroll into that votin’ booth!!
