Subject’s sorta serious, I’m not sure if there’s room for any?
Once upon a time, not so long ago, America was the preeminent country in the world. We led that world in cultural pursuits, scientific breakthroughs, and military might. We had style in nearly every endeavor. From clothes to cars, from medicines to music..., You name it! We did it bigger, better, faster, smarter than anyone else (ever).
Our “lifestyle” was the envy of just about everyone in just about any country, worldwide.
We made (and gave away) more money and time to charity, helping more people in more places than anyone in history. We did it (seemingly) without even tryin’ very hard, for ourselves and half rest of the world.
Still, lots of folks around the world never cared for us. Mostly because we were so good at doing what we did.
People didn’t like that we also maintained (sometimes used) the largest, most advanced military ever seen. For the millions we’ve protected and kept free, we were (sometimes) admired. Pretty much everyone respected (feared) us.
In recent years, in all of the above areas (and more) we’ve fallen by the wayside. We no longer “lead” in very many ways.
Our “leadership” position in general is eroding at an alarming rate. Oh sure, our military is still the worlds most powerful, but we lack the ability to use it (much) and the world knows it. Sadly, we’re becoming irrelevant. Someday soon, we’ll look back on the 20th century and ask wistfully..., “What the H--- happened?!”
Over the past thirty years the only thing we’ve led the world in is..., Borrowing Money! An' we’ve done that better than anyone else too. But the weight of it (just like that gut hangin’ over your belt) is gonna kill us!
Maybe we can (should) do something to remain in our position of leadership of the world. Just maybe, there’s still a way we can maintain our relevance? Ya know, I’ve yet to see any country, culture or political system anywhere, that I’d prefer to see runnin’ the show! Maybe you have?
I believe I’ve got the One Idea that could keep us not only relevant, but in a position to continue to be the worlds preeminent power. It’s something we’d done very well in the past! But we’ve let it slip away.
Certainly not by manufacturing new or better products (we’ve closed up or sold off our manufacturing base). It’s not that new “information” technology we invented (that was gonna “save us”) we gave that away. Not new medicines, we give them away (except to our own people). Not weapons, since we already sell them to Anyone (including enemies) fast as we invent ‘em.
Nope, none of those things. Nor any of the myriad other things we’ve invented or discovered and developed and manufactured or grew..., Wait a Minute! That’s It!!
That’s our ticket to maintaining our center stage standing in the world!
Once upon a time we actually grew all food we ate, and then some! We began to feed the rest of the world. And we (over)fed ourselves until we grew fat (and lazy).
For a century and more, we grew the worlds wheat, oats, corn and other crops. The beef and pork, the chickens, the vegetables, best part of the fruit (we even caught most of the fish).
But sadly we’ve pretty much quit doing that.
Turns out most of us didn’t really want to work that hard (especially for the kind of money farmers pocketed). We’ve neglected our farmers, our land, our agricultural technology, even our marketing.
It became “easier” to import our food, than it was to grow it and make a profit selling (or donating) it to a hungry world. Amazing!! How dumb are we?!
Producing the worlds food is something we can (must) do again!
Everybody has to eat (pretty much every day). We have the land, we have the know-how. All we have to regain is the willpower (and a willingness to do hard work). This would not only keep us relevant, it could eventually Pay off All our Debts!
Otherwise, the only thing we’ll have left in this world to remain (propped up) on the world stage? Will be an (aging) nuclear threat. And that's rapidly becoming our last hope of remaining relevant as we grow older (and deeper in debt!).
