I always thought the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme was a pretty cool car. Especially the style of the ones made in the mid-1980s. GM not only quit making that particular model, sadly they quit making the entire Oldsmobile line a few years back. After a hundred years, a sorry end to a once great automobile brand. I still think it was a mistake on GMs part. Then again, not enough people bought one.
Then there was a “Supreme” pizza, came along around the time of the Cutlass? They used up the whole name of the company introducing it as the, “Pizza Hut Super Supreme Pizza”. It was a pretty good pizza pie. Maybe not as good as the ones I used to make? Instead of supreme, it was named, “Garbage” pizza. Sold ‘em at the old country tavern we ran (for a few minutes) some years back. Quit makin’ that garbage pizza the same time we we quit runnin’ that little bar. Maybe a mistake on our part? But life has a way of movin’ on.
About the same time that Cutlass and pizza came along there was a group of girl singers who used that “Supreme” name too. Came from Detroit just like that Oldsmobile. But the music industry called it Motown. Lots of good music and most of the worlds cars came from there at the time! The singing group called themselves something like, Gladys Knight and the...,
Hah! Had you going didn’t I?! Just making sure you’re still payin’ attention. We’ve got a ways to go before we get to the real reason for this little vignette.
Now let’s see? Those singers were called the umm, uhh, hmm..., oh Yeah! The Supremes! Actually, “Diana Ross and the Supremes”. Had their best years in the mid-60s. Then Diana moved on to a “solo career”. None of ‘em were ever as great after that.
Mistakes get made. Serious consequences usually affect only those people interested.
I’m bettin’ lotsa folks miss those singers. Some still mourn the loss of that automobile. Some (lucky folks) still enjoy (indigestion) those pizzas. Me? I still miss (some) customers from that little bar.
We've got one other important “Supreme” to talk about. This one, whether you realize it or not, affects you everyday. You can’t drive it or hum a tune with it, but it can still give you indigestion.
This last “Supreme” I’ve been gittin’ to today?
It’s that grand old legal institution (sometimes) affectionately referred to as, The Supreme Court of the United States of America!
You might not realize it, but they make mistakes too.
Surprised? You’re to be forgiven. After all, they only “take up” a case when they feel like it. No one can make ‘em “take up” anything they don’t care to (cool job!).
Then, when you figure they only “render a decision” after lots of studyin’, listenin’, sometimes months of cogitating (!). You’d think they wouldn’t ever  make mistakes. (Surely if you and I worked under those rules we wouldn’t, would we?!) But they do!
They made one (major one) just last week!
Naturally, they're loath to admit any  mistake. After all, they are “Supreme”, right?
So on rare occasion, congress will (be forced to) go back and fix one for ‘em. Even more rare..., they’ve been known to fix their own. Usually takes most of a lifetime (and several of theirs) before that happens!
This time they even make “mistakes” out of several previous “good” decisions! They have reversed nearly a hundred years of their own (wiser) predecessors good decisions!! (When they screw up, they screw up big time!).
 What did they do?
They've decided “Corporations” (“pacs”, unions, big money, etc.) are the equal of you and me (human, citizens, voters!!).  At least when it comes to “free” speech. More specifically “Paid" Speech, in the form of (previously banned) political ads!
But it will amount to more (much more!) than just ads. Starting with the elections this fall, you’ll see!!
You think your small voice (and one little vote) got lost in the frenzy of elections past? Just wait until the big corporations (and billionaires) join up with Madison Avenue (advertising industry) and start rootin’ for their candidates!!
No One will be able to hear you (or me)!
The advertisin’, hoopla, hollerin’ and the story tellin’ (lies) generated by big money, will drown out everything and everyone! You’ll be lucky to be able to even think about who’s actually campaigning..., let alone who to vote for!!
I Don’t Know About You..., (sometimes). So I’m tellin’ ya, You’d better convince your legislators to correct this “Supreme Mistake”, and Quick!!
