I know, I promised, no more political columns this year. I also said “cross my heart and hope you vote”. You mighta, but not often enough?
I mention racism in the headline. Admirably, the campaigns were run (almost completely) without it. Reasons for that? The two men involved knew better, they’re both smart (and because of ones honor). The election itself? Not so much.
Racism, like the road that runs past my house..., runs both ways. The campaigns even when goaded by the media, traveled one way (mostly) avoiding racism. Nice. Made me a little prouder of us as people.
The election on the other hand, took a u-turn on that road. I expect many noticed, but won’t bring it up? Certainly not the liberal media, (nearly every TV and print “news” organization out there), since their “messiah” is president-elect.
I’ve been studyin’ the election results maps to see if something I expected to happen, happened? It did, on a scale that stunned even me. Racism.
Those maps graphically show the results of votes across the nation. By county, city, state, region, just about any configuration you might wanna see? I always look for ones showing the nations vote county by county.
Little colored areas showing democrat and republican votes (independents too, so little ya can’t actually see ‘em). Red color for republicans, blue for democrats.
Those maps seem to show nearly the whole country voted republican? But then you focus in on metropolitan areas (and a few rural areas). You’ll notice the blue (democrat) takes up virtually all those urban areas.
You realize those places, though tiny geographically, are just crammed full of folks (livin’ one on top of the other). Makin’ for a whole bunch of edgy (liberal) voters in those little areas!
Within those little map areas are lots (millions) of “ethnic minorities”. Asian-americans, hispanic-americans, african-americans, with a few plain-ole-americans? The majority of those “minorities” are african-americans. Some 26 million african-american voters, near as I can find out?
They’ve been growing smarter in recent years? Moving out of those cramped-up areas, into “the country” or suburbs. I’m pleased to see this, ‘cuz it might help them start to think more like folks who’ve lived “out in the country” all along? Where, for the most part, people are more likely to think about (think like?) their neighbors, than themselves.
But back to those (racist?) maps. Specifically the ones that show concentric circles overlaying those metropolitan areas. Many overlapping, strainin’ to illustrate results in tightly spaced districts. Lookin’ like nothing so much as the maps you see in modern war movies? The ones that show nuclear bomb destruction areas as they detonate.
Lookin’ at these maps as a whole, all those metro areas appear completely obliterated, with some minor destruction in surrounding areas. A few scattered, rural counties (curiously) are layered over with those ubiquitous blue circles.
So, you’re wonderin’, where does this country bumpkin see the racism?
Within those circles! Where those millions make up that “majority” minority. They voted democrat (that’s expected). But in numbers that clearly show they weren’t voting that way based on qualifications. Difficult at best, since the candidate has none (other than intelligence and eloquence).
I’ll bet you still can’t articulate a handful of “facts” about the candidate (or his “policies”?). Go ahead, try! There’s no history there! Except in his “memoirs”, where we’re told everything he (conveniently) “wanted” us to know? Pretty cool! “Memoirs” from a guy who hasn’t lived enough to have any!
Now I’ve picked an example from those “metro” maps. The District of Columbia, (population: 85% african-american). It’s a pretty fair microcosm of inner-city areas and their voters.
Here’s where I see racism (in the election)! People there voted ninety-three percent (93%!) for Sen. Obama. NO ONE gets 93% of the vote!! (Cuba, Iran, Russia maybe?) Granted, some voted for “change” or other nebulous, unknowable quality, But 93%!? C’mon! those folks were casting racist votes (reverse-racist?) not voting “qualifications”.
Had Sen. Obamas’ opponent had been Jefferson, Roosevelt, Kennedy, or Lincoln? They’d have lost too! (ok, maybe not Lincoln?).
Sen. McCain lost by what, 7 million votes? If 93% of the 26 million african-american voters nationwide cast their ballots this way (not that I blame ‘em) that’s 24 million votes! Reverse-racism cost Sen. McCain this election.
Now Please! Before you start throwin’ rocks at me, thinkin’ I’m racist? Go to the Independents web site, click opinions, then columnists. Pull up my previous column titled: I never owned a slave..., You? Read my “comments” in the comment area. Thanks!
I Don’t Know About You..., Had Colin Powell been running, I’da voted for Him!
