  • Dax Shepard is writing, directing and starring in a feature film adaptation of the NBC motorcycle highway patrol dramedy CHiPS,  Deadline reports.
The Parenthood star will play straight-laced Officer Jon Baker in the role originated by Larry Wilcox on the NBC series which ran from 1977-83. Michael Pena is set to play Jon's trouble-prone partner, Frank "Ponch" Poncherello, first played by Erik Estrada.
Fall TV: Familiar faces in new places
Warner Bros. originally tried to develop a CHiPS movie a few years back with Wilmer Valderrama, who appeared in an executive's office wearing the tight-fighting uniform and sold the idea by simply saying, "Funny, right?" This new adaptation will reportedly be more of a Lethal Weapon action film than tight-uniformed comedy.
