WAYNE COUNTY — The Wayne County Community Foundation Board of Directors has selected Gary C. Beilman with its highest recognition, the 2015 Ben Franklin Award for Community Service.

The award, commemorating one of nation’s “Founding Fathers…Benjamin Franklin,” is accompanied by a $1,000 grant from the Foundation’s Ben Franklin Fund.

The gift will be awarded to a charity of Mr. Beilman’s choice.

The selection was made by the Board of the Wayne County Community Foundation in recognition of Gary’s years of service to his community.

In the nineteen years for this award, he has one of the greatest broad-based representation of board service & leadership in so very many types of organization……Education, health care, cultural, philanthropy, community development, economic, humanitarian, and religious.

In each of these areas, Gary, a Hawley native, has a long legacy of service and effective leadership.

He is currently Chairman of the Chamber of the Northern Poconos; Treasurer of the Wallenpaupack Area School District Board of Education; President of Dorflinger-Suydam Sanctuary; Co-Chair of the United Way Wayne Co. Fund Drive; Director, Wayne Memorial Health System; Chairman, Boy Scouts Fund Drive; Director, Downtown Hawley Partnership; Pastoral Council, Queen of Peace RC Church…and the list goes on.

It is so incredibly obvious that twenty-one Wayne County charitable organizations have seen what is so apparent to us…Gary C. Beilman is a true “community servant” and born leader.

Balancing all of the above must certainly be a scheduling challenge since

Gary also holds one of the most responsible career leadership positions as President of the Dime Bank where he has been employed for 26 years. Here he has led the Bank in the last two decades with successful building expansions, technology applications, and sound fiscal banking and investment practices.

When told of his selection, Gary said; “I am humbled to be selected and never even thought I would be in the company of those incredible individuals who have been selected in the past.

“I just go about doing what I can to help make our community a better place. I’m so fortunate to work with such fine professionals here at the Dime Bank and other like-minded community service folks in the organizations that I work with.”

Gary graduated from the Wallenpaupack High School; and received his B.S. at the University of Scranton.

He did advanced work at the University of Scranton and Ball State University in Indiana.

He is the proud father of three children, Ryan, Corie, and Jamie. He has one granddaughter, Scarlette.

The Foundation will host a dinner to honor Gary on Thursday, October 29, 2015 to be held at Ehrhardt’s Waterfront Resort in Tafton.
