Going once! Going twice! Going three times! Gone!
The familiar sounds of an auctioneer will echo from the Bethany bandshell, reverberating across the park green in front of the library, Saturday, September 20, during the first annual Arts and Antique Auction.
Hosted by the The Bethany Collective, which was formed to support the beautification and preservation of historic Bethany community, the Arts and Antique Auction will benefit several projects and organizations.
"Our primary goal this year is to raise money for the restoration of the bandshell," said Chris Peroni, orangizer of the event. "Some of the proceeds will also go to the library, the historical society, the fireproof building, and the beautification of the park. "
Buyers can preview items to be auctioned at 10:00 a.m., and the auction, which will be run by auctioneer, Sue Kinzinger, will start promptly at 11:00 a.m.
Peroni said that the group is actively soliciting items to be auctioned. "We're looking for art work, gift certificates, antiques, and collectibles to be autctioned to the highest bidder. People can either donate or offer them on consignment," he said.
"We already have several beautiful paintings, including a selection from the late local artist, Howard Becker, stunning Dorflinger Glass, old toys, quilts, including one handmade specifically for our auction, colorful oil lamps, fine furniture pieces, decorative items, modern ceramic sculpture and art, gift certificates for bed and breakfasts, and unique services, like a manuscript critique, and a collection of antique plates and glass from the estate of Caroline Clark Myers, co-founder of Highlights for Children magazine," said Peroni.
Organizers said that the event will be held 'rain or shine,' and that refreshments will be available to be purchased. Those interested in more information or wishing to donate or offer items for consignment can contact Mr. Peroni at 570-251-4346 or Janet Heinly at 570-253-5573 to arrange a drop-off or pick-up of donations or consignments.
