At 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday in August, Kerry Jo Rizzo, Hotel Fauchère’s Beverage Director and Sommelier, will host a tasting series exploring champagne/sparkling wine, craft beer, mezcal & chocolate and local Pennsylvania wine.

Join us for one Wednesday or the entire series and relax on the hotel’s front porch, as you taste, learn and savor. Light hors d'oeuvres are included, reservations are required.

• Wednesday, Aug. 6: Sparkling Wines ($50 per person). The Hotel Fauchère will kick off the series with Sparkling Wines, including Pinnacle Ridge Blanc de Blancs, a méthode champenoise made from the Cayuga grape in Lehigh Valley.

Another feature is a classic Champagne, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, Yellow Label.

It will also feature Jean-Noël Haton Brut Classic, a Blanc de Noirs, made with only red grapes (Pinot Noir/Pinot Meunier).

Lastly, it will wrap up the tasting with Nectar Imperial Rosé, a Demi-Sec offering by Moet & Chandon.

• Wednesday, Aug. 13: Craft Beers. ($20 per person). Unique beer in the Craft Beer session includes Julius Echter by Würzburger Hofbräu, a Hefeweizen from Germany, Duchesse de Bourgogne by Brouwerij Verhaeghe, a Flanders Red ale from Belgium, Lindeman's Pêche Lambic, an outstanding fruit lambic also from Belgium, Ayinger Celebrator by Privatbrauerei Franz Inselkammer, a Dopplebock from Germany and a Trappist Quadruple by Brasserie de Rochefort, known as Rochefort 10.

This tasting gives a varied and eclectic glimpse into beers from Germany and Belgium.

• Wednesday, Aug. 20: Mezcal and Chocolate ($40 per person). Mexican chocolates paired with the hotel's collection of Del Maguey Mezcal, which originated in Albarradas and San Luis de Rio.

Del Maguey 100 percent Tobala is another one of our features, made from a specific varietal of agave plant.

It is rare and difficult to acquire, so this mezcal is known as the “Wild Mountain Maguey.”

There will also be a bottle of Monte Alban from Oaxaca, a common mezcal, with the worm in the bottle for those brave enough to give it a try.

• Wednesday, Aug. 27: Local Wines ($30 per person). Pennsylvania’s wine industry is flourishing, with AVA’s such as Lake Erie AVA, Lancaster Valley AVA and for this five wine tasting, the Lehigh Valley AVA.

They include Galen Glen Grüner Veltliner, a favorite of our guests in the Bar Louis and Delmonico Room; Pinnacle Ridge Dry Vidal Blanc (this grape is normally cultivated for ice wine in Canada, but this winery is working wonders with it as a dry varietal wine), Vynecrest Chambourcin, a red wine made from a grape that is quickly becoming the primary red varietal of Pennsylvania, Blair Vineyards white blend, an aromatic wine which could give Loire Valley wines a run for their money, and Karamoor Estate Merlot, a rich and fruitful expression of the well-known grape, made by friends and local residents of the area.

Please join in on the front porch of Hotel Fauchère – Relais & Châteaux, every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in August for these lovely events.

It’s a perfect way to enjoy the outdoors and imbibe, but also a great educational experience.
