  • HONESDALE – Emergency crews were on scene at an area business Thursday morning after someone drove a car into the building.
A Jeep 4x4 drove through two windows at A&A Auto Parts, Old Willow Ave.
“We got the call around 10:44 a.m.,” said Patrolman Thacher from the Honesdale Borough Police Department. “The driver hit the gas instead of the brake when they were going to leave the store.”
The driver and three passengers were visiting from Camp Towanda.
Honesdale Borough Police, the Honesdale Fire Department, the Wayne County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and Wayne Ambulance were on scene.
Mesko Glass was also on hand measuring the damaged area so the glass can be replaced.
“She stepped on the gas, went over the curb and into the building,” said Pete Hooker, deputy coordinator for the EMA. “There was structural damage, but not enough to close the store down.”
He added the Jeep hit one beam and two panes of glass. The beam is only a support for the glass.
“It's not a support for the building so that's why the building is fine,” Hooker stated.
There were no injuries from the incident.
Mike Cook and Vanessa Rossignol were working when the incident occurred.
“It sounded like a bomb went off,” Cook said.
He added the noise was due to the change in air pressure after the windows were hit.
Rossignol added they're glad everyone is okay.
