LACKAWAXEN – On Saturday, June 26 the Lackawaxen Township Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting the annual Firemen's Field Day.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the fire department.

The Field Day starts at 4 p.m. with an antique and classic car show, chicken barbecue and children's bouncies by Junior Amusements.

The Mickey Barnett Band will be providing entertainment starting at 7:30 p.m. At dusk there will be fireworks provided by Interstate Fireworks.

“Admission is free,” said Bob Cocchi, president of the Lacakwaxen Township Volunteer Fire Department. “You only pay for food and drinks at the bar.”

He added their funnel cake booth will be open and funnel cake will be available for purchase.

There will also be 50/50 raffles and donation baskets.

“This is an event we do every year,” Cocchi stated. “It's our way of given back to the community. We try to make a nice day out of it.”

Cocchi added they usually get a good crowd.

Car show

The antique and classic car show will take place from 4-7 p.m. and prices will be awarded.

“We have anything from antique to classics to new cars,” Cocchi said. “If you have a car and you think it's worth showing off, bring it down.”

He added they've had old cars from the 30s, 40s and 50s, Mustangs, muscle cars, cars from the 2000s, big show cars, Dodge Chargers and Camaros.

“The variety is there,” Cocchi stated.

You can start bringing cars between 2 and 4 p.m.

“The judging will start when there are a good group of cars on site,” Cocchi said. “Trophies will be given out. There will also be glass mugs that have the fire company name and logo on them.”

Musical entertainment

Cocchi said the Mickey Barnett Band played at the event last year.

“They play a variety of music,” he said. “They play oldies and newer music and also play songs by request. They're good. They'll play whatever you ask them to.”

He added the event is a lot of fun.

“It's a nice day and the weather looks good,” Cocchi said. “We're looking forward to that. There's a variety of people with cars and activities for the kids to do.

“We have fireworks and a band, beer, drinks and a barbecue. There's quite a bit to do.”

He added many people come out for the fireworks.

“They put on a good show,” Cocchi said. “Come on out.”

Supporting firemen

Proceeds from the event help out the fire department with expenses.

“We just got a new truck and had a $97,000 loan for it,” Cocchi stated. “The money will help with that too. It will also help with equipment we need throughout the course of the year.”

The Lacakwaxen Township Volunteer Fire Department is located at the corner of Route 590 and Westcolang Road in Lackawaxen next to the bridge over the Lackawaxen River.
