  • The 2014 PA Preferred Chocolate Baking Contest is looking for bakers of all ages to find a favorite recipe and enter it now at the 152nd Wayne County Fair in Honesdale, August 1-9. Judging will take place on Friday August 1 at the fairgrounds.

     The 2014 PA Preferred Chocolate Baking Contest is looking for bakers of all ages to find a favorite recipe and enter it now at the 152nd Wayne County Fair in Honesdale, August 1-9. Judging will take place on Friday August 1 at the fairgrounds.
    The contest is co-sponsored by The PA Dept of Agriculture’s PA Preferred program and the PA State Association of County Fairs. This is the third year the PA Preferred program is a contest co-sponsor. As a
    State-sponsored agricultural marketing program, PA Preferred identifies and promotes food and agricultural products grown, produced or processed in PA. When residents buy local products, they not only directly support the state’s economy, but also encourage Pennsylvania businesses to continue to grow and created great products that guarantee consumers fresh, quality food.

    Contestants are encouraged to use as many Pennsylvania-produced ingredients as possible in their chocolate baking recipes.

    More than 100 fairs across PA will offer cash prizes for the best PA Preferred® chocolate cakes and chocolate cookies, brownies or bars (youth division).
    Wayne County Fair’s contest is a preliminary competition that leads to the selection of the final PA Preferred Chocolate Baking blue ribbon winners each January at the PA Farm Show in Harrisburg.
    First place winners at the Farm Show will be awarded a cash grand prize of $500 for the winning chocolate cake recipe and $250 for the winning chocolate cookie, brownie or bar recipe.
